Wherein I run waaaaay late with a post + other revealing things

"What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis?" I hear you ask.

(Yeah, 'cept maybe not.)

(I know, I know, who does way overdone Diff'rent Strokes "jokes" anymore?  Lameness, thy name is Pretzel.)

SOOO, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away on Oct 16 one of my bloggy BFFs and a fellow Melburnian -- the wonderful Kirsti from A Quick Succession of Busy Nothings (she is awesomesauce, you guys, and you should follow her because:  DUH, Kirsti = brilliant/witty/hilarious/fun) -- nominated me for a Liebster Blog award because, apparently, I ain't half bad?  Or something?  Muhahahah.

(My humility is palpable, huh?)

Aaaaanyway, jesting aside, part of this nomination includes listing 11 facts about myself (you poor creatures) then also answering 11 questions posed by Kirsti.  I shall endeavour to make this as painless as possible.  (Run, y'all...run while you still can!!)

But first I need to thank Kirsti, which I really should have done at the start of this post: thaaaaank youuuuu, dear Kirsti!  ::hug::

Now, without further ado...

11 Facts About Me

I pretty much always perk up when a Roxette song comes on the car radio (I think it's nigh on impossible for anyone not to perk up when this happens).  Brilliant 90s melodic pop much?!  I mean, come ON.  Yes, I even perk up when the more melancholy tracks start up, like It Must've Been Love and Listen to Your Heart...so you can imagine the glee when the radio plays The Look, Joyride, Dangerous, and so on.

===

I am an enthusiastic seat dancer.  I don't care if someone pulls up alongside me and sees it (mostly because I'm so lost in the grooveage, hahah).  I consider seat-dancing one of the simple pleasures in life.  Hee!  (Singing along to the radio is a no-brainer since most of you know I'm a singer outside my day job.)

===

Speaking of dancing, MY GOD do I love it!  I've done it in one form or another since I was a kid and, yeah, I guess you could say I'm pretty good.  (There's no way to say that without sounding like a conceited and supreme wanker.)  Put it this way:  I can dance like Britney and not look like a try-hard.  (Ahem...old-school Britney!)  Fear not, though -- I don't do Britney-esque choreography out in public and try to initiate dance-offs with people, hahahah.

===

I love sarcasm and snark.  ("Huh, no kidding?" = said by everyone who's read my blog for any amount of time.)

===

I have a road rage problem with honking the car horn, but only when someone is actually being an asshole on the road, like cutting me off, entering a freeway at a funeral procession pace ('cause that's safe, moron), and other stupid shizz.  Obviously I'm not one of those freaks who honks the horn for nothing.

===

20 years later, I still cry during that scene in My Girl.  Waaaaahhhh, it KILLS ME DEAD.

===

Joshua Jackson was the very first actor I crushed on, aaaaaall the way back in 1995 when I was 10.  (He's my longest-standing actor crush!)  Yes, it all started with his "star turn" in The Mighty Ducks, back when only a handful of people knew him by his real name and not "Charlie Conway from the Ducks".  Y'all, could I have BEEN more of a hipster?  You can torture yourself read more about this obsession crush riiiiiight here -- I promise you'll laugh!

===

I have chestnut-brown eyes with green specks below my pupils.  Fascinating, I'm sure.  I didn't notice said specks until a few years ago, though.  Bwah!

===

I am a staunch Simpsons fan and can quote heaps of classic scenes at the drop of a hat (nice to see what my brain is invested in), but it's more old-school Simpsons (seasons 2-6 were the crème de la crème!).  "It was the best of times, it was the BLURST of times?!"

===

I love food.  I'm a gourmand.  Food...OM NOM NOM.

===

Final fact...crap!  What to say?  Such pressure!  (This reminds me of that scene in Pretty Woman where Vivian asks Kit to name one hooker for whom life has worked out, and Kit hilariously goes, "What, you want me to name someone? You want, like, a name?  ...oh, God...the pressure of a name.")

My final fact would be...sometimes I think I regret the fact that I was such a good kid during my teens.  You know?  Like, I was a goody-goody, I never wanted to upset my mama and I didn't really do anything rebellious.  I guess I regret the fact that I didn't do stupid things during a time when it's expected that kids will do stupid things (you know, mild stuff like telling the parentals you'll be at a slumber party but instead going to a club or some stupid crap like that).  Clearly my mama had put the fear of God into me, hahahah.  But, then again, maybe there's a reason I didn't do stupid things -- maybe it was a combo of not feeling the need to do them + too much respect for mama?

"What relevance does this recent picture of you and Yogi have to this post?" you ask?Why, I'm trying to breakup the monotony of the text and save you all a flood of "blah-blah-blah"-ing, of course!

You know, I could just have cheated and linked to my About Me page (oodles of random and not-so-random facts there!)...drat!  Too late now.  We've come so far!

And now for the 11 questions...y'all still awake?

1.  What's your favourite fictional pairing and why?

Weeeell, I'm glad you asked!  Heh heh.  I've got a fair few.  From a book?  Alexander Barrington and Tatiana Metanova, the two main protagonists from Paullina Simons' "The Bronze Horseman" trilogy (The Bronze Horseman / The Bridge to Holy Cross / The Summer Garden).  You guys, read this.  READ IT.  Such amazing, haunting and engrossing books.  The first one is set just before the start of the second world war in St Petesburg (then Leningrad), and follows Alexander and Tatiana meeting, then falling in love as the war begins to rage.  (It's not cheesy in the least, trust me.  It's authentic and gripping and just wow.)  Read it, y'all.  YOU'LL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.

As for other fictional pairings, there's Pacey and Joey from Dawson's Creek becauses, well, watch season 3 and aaaaall will become clear.  In short?  They have great chemistry, they look great together, and, you know, it's true love.  Pacey is Joey's true soulmate, not freakin' Dawson.  (During Dawson's Creek's run, the show made me loathe the word "soulmate", and I'm sure I'm not the only one!)

2.  If you found a time machine that could also take you anywhere in the universe, what's the first place you would go and why?

Hoo boy.  At first I thought this would be a toughie and I started thinking about things like the age of the dinosaurs, blah blah blah...and then I realised the most obvious choice, which would be to return to a time I lived once before and prevent my father from getting wounded and ultimately dying back in 1993.  I know, I know.  And then I think about the butterfly effect and all the ways doing something like that could possibly change the future...

3.  What's your favourite Halloween related movie?

Hmmm...I don't think I have one.  I never actually saw Carpenter's "Halloween" for one...although I did see "Halloween H20" -- hahahahah.  I'm sure I'm forgetting one, though.

This isn't one of my most flattering shots but I've posted it because, well, this must be the
expression you're sporting, all "Girl, PLEASE.  This post too long!  Gah!"

4.  If you could be any kind of animal, what would you be?

Dolphin.  Some kind of bird (eagle, sparrow; whatever).  Golden retriever.  Bear. Giraffe.

5.  Cake or cupcakes?

Cake, all the way.  It's not that I don't like cupcakes, it's just that...a lot of the ones I've tried are too sweet, and I don't do too sweet.  Moderately sweet, yes.

6.  What's your favourite song at the moment?

Can I name a few?  Great, thanks.  "Little talks" (Of Monsters and Men), "Try" (Pink), "Gone" (Vacationer), "Locked out of heaven" (Bruno Mars), "Ride" (Lana Del Rey), and the following one is one I've known and loved since around 1999 (discovered via Dawson's) but forgot all about it in the last 6ish years or so:  "Northern lad" (Tori Amos).

7.  What was your favourite subject in high school?

Seeing as I've always been a language/grammar geek and bibliophile, that would be English aaaaall the way, baby!  Loved English in every grade/year level and wasn't ashamed to admit it.

8.  What's your favorite 90s TV show?

Have too many to mention!  In no particular order:

Friends
Seinfeld
The Cosby Show (I mean, sure, it started in the 80s...but still!)
Roseanne
Full House
Dawson's Creek
Felicity
Party of Five
Brooklyn Bridge
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
ER
Beverly Hills 90210
(I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more!)  (I watched too much TV as a kid and teen.)

9.  If you could be any superhero, who would you be?

Duh, Batman!  Fiiiiiine, I guess I can't really be Batman.  Batgirl?  (But not the awful/hilarious/campy Joel Schumacher version.)  (Oh, Alicia, what were you thinking?!)

10.  What do you like on your pizza?

For the most part I like simple toppings, like on a margharita (tomato, fior di latte cheese, basil).  I also like marinated prawns on a pizza (mmmm) or nice salami.  Basically, if it tastes good and belongs on a pizza, I'm in.  (I can't do pineapple on a pizza, though.  It wasn't until immigrating to Australia that I discovered that's even a thing!)

11.  Do you have any weird phobias?

Do I ever...!  The weirdest one is the "mistaken identity" one, i.e. that I'll be walking down a street and I'll accidentally get shot because the crazy crims/hitmen thought I was someone else OMG HOW AWFUL ARE THOSE CASES.  Ahem.  God forbid that ever happens, hahah.

Breaking up the text, brrrreeeeaking it all up!

  4. The first time I read this through (on my phone on the bus...), I didn't see Dawson's Creek jammed in the middle of all the other 90s shows, and was all "DUDE. YOU FORGOT SOMETHING." But having just reread it now, you can carry on as per usual and ignore me and my vagueness! xx
