Holiday, vacay...call it what you want, there's no work!

Heeeey, y'all!

Merry Christmas!  Did you all have a wonderful one?

(And if you don't celebrate, did you enjoy the day off?  Heh heh.)

As it happens, I actually celebrate Serbian Orthodox Christmas (two weeks later on 7th Jan, i.e. it goes by the old, Julian calendar) but certain elements of the "first Christmas" on the 25th always give me the warm fuzzies. For instance, Christmas carols and standards -- I'm a sucker for them! (O Come All Ye Faithful, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Silent Night, Jingle Bell Rock, O Holy Night, The Christmas Song/Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, All I Want for Christmas is You...etc.)

On the 23rd, a friend of mine came over  and insisted we make the oh so Christmassy eggnog.  So we did.  And people?  It was aaaaall kinds of delish.  Beaten eggs, sugar, milk, thickened cream, bourbon whisky[!], rum[!] and a GENEROUS sprinkling of cinnamon -- simple much?!  And then we watched "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" for what might be the hundredth time.  Because we're nine, apparently?

Yesterday, Yogi and I went to gorgeous Lorne on Great Ocean Road and did a whoooole lotta bike-riding.  (Yeah, baby!)

On the way there...bluuuue.

...and we're in Lorne!  (The view from the pier.)

Okay, so, this azure perfection KILLS ME DEAD. I mean, come onnn. We've been to Lorne and the Great Ocean Road dozens of times but I don't think I've ever seen the ocean blue quite like this before. Sparkling, mesmerising blueness. Also? The weather was perfect and sunny and summery.

All up, out of the 5hrs spent in Lorne, we rode our bikes for 3.5hrs...we cycled near the beach and explored all of Lorne, including its beach-adjacent hilly and bumpy bike trails (which: sooo coooool). Yogi left clouds of dirt-trail dust in his wake and then cackled every time I'd sputter/laugh/holler "Oy! Quit that!" Saboteur! Hahah. The rest of the time we chilled on the pier, on the beach, and treated ourselves to the delectable burgers and chips at The Bottle of Milk.

We discovered it with my bro and his girlfriend back in late 2009 and have returned many times since. It's one of the best burger joints in Victoria, hands down.

I had zero plans to do any shopping yesterday but as we rode past a pretty boutique I noticed THE cutest turquoise smock dress and, well, I had to have it. I looked at the price tag and it was cleared from $90 to half price. BOOM. I then also saw a cute pink/white baseball top at a nearby surf shop for $20. Duration of impromptu shopping burst: 5mins. Booyah! (I loathe shopping.)

Today we did more roadtrippin' and went to the Mornington Peninsula (specifically, Sorrento and Portsea) with my mama and her partner.  We had a nice time, even though the weather was nowhere near as pretty (it was waaaaay too windy, for one).

Tomorrow I'm going to the beautiful Yarra Valley region with my besties -- two days of relaxation, movie marathons and pampering!  (I know, I know, I hate me too.)  On Saturday we've got a girly pampering package booked in at a rainforest day spa, with massages, botanical facials, foot treats and a hydrotherapy spa.  We booked this months ago so it's been a long time coming.

What's that?

You want to see another photo of pretty Lorne?

Thy will be done.

  1. Lorne is one of my favourite places on earth- I grew up in Torquay. My fave spot in Lorne is the pub terrace beer garden. I give people stink eye until they move off the best seat- the one right in the corner looking over everything. Also I just discovered that they have dirty granny cider on tap. Woo hoo!
    Enjoy your break!

  7. I would never tire of those blue ocean waters either. So picture perfect!

I am the same. I love getting into the Christmas spirit and tried to do it a bit earlier this year than usual (the day after Thanksgiving). Then again when you have a two-foot fake tree, it doesn't take much :)

Home Alone 2! I haven't seen it in AGES!!! I also didn't catch Elf once this year. Sadness!!!
